Maintenance Assistant (Landscaping)
Term, Full-time (July 2018 - January 2019)


Purpose


Reporting to the Facilities Services Supervisor in Facilities Management, the Maintenance Assistant Landscaping will provide all manner of grounds keeping duties to maintain the Campus landscape in a safe and appealing condition.


Responsibilities


Specific duties may include but are not limited to:

- Design, install, repair and maintain automated sprinkler systems;

- Maintain lawns including mowing, weeding, trimming and fertilizing;

- Prune and plant trees, hedges and shrubs;

- Maintain flower beds including planting, weeding and pruning;

- Operate mobile equipment including skid steer, ride on mowers, side by side vehicles, snow plow;

- Develop and maintain an inventory of the required tools, supplies, parts and equipment;

- Water all indoor plants in public areas;

- Work with herbicides and pesticides safely and effectively;

- Clear snow, salt and sand sidewalks;

- All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


The successful candidate will possess the following:


- Pesticide/Herbicide applicator certificates;

- 5+ years' related experience in horticultural/landscaping work preferably in an institutional setting;

- Master Gardener certificate would be an asset;

- Must possess a valid BC Driver's License - Class 5;

- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, communication software (i.e. MS Word, Excel, and Outlook);

- Ability to lift heavy objects (50 lbs.) and maintain strenuous physical activity;

- Strong multitasking and communication skills.


An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.


Salary


This position has been classified at a Grade 6A. The annual salary range for this position is $54,401.98 - $56,659.75, and the normal starting salary will be $54,401.98 prorated based on the length of the term.


Normal hours of work will be Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm.
